G'day Everyone, I am writing on behalf of Vindi Boy, Doug H. Bennett. (R332835) He is at present hospitalised after some major surgery. It is not known when he will be allowed to go home. He is in Logan Hospital in ward H2 bed 19. He will possibly be moved to the PA Hospital when he is strong enough. Doug went to the Vindi early in 1945 as a Catering Trainee. After training, his first ship was FORT BEDFORD signed on 30-5-45. Next, TEKOA 19-1-46. Next Sussex 23-5-46. Next, looks like SAMNIB 01-12-46. Next, DOMINION MONARCH 7-4-47, for 2 trips. Next WINDRUSH 16-8-47. Next LLANSTEPHAN CASTLE 30-12-47. Next, looks like WAIPAWN 25-3-48. Next, MATAROA 1-5-48. Next, ORION 14-10-48 as Assistant Steward. This was his last trip as when the ship left Sydney, Doug was a little late arriving at the wharf. He says the captain was inconsiderate because Doug was only 3 days adrift. Anyway, as there was no ship, he decided to stay in Australia. If there is anyone out there that remembers Doug on any of these ships and would like to send him some good wishes, please write to him via my email address and I will make sure he receives the letters. Thanks, Jack Secker (V '51)

Merchant Navy Day 3rd September Day of Remembrance 2009
As you are all aware on the 24 June 2008 the Australian Government legislated the 3rd September as Merchant Navy Day, a day of Remembrance, when we remember those who made the Supreme Sacrifice WW11. This Day of Remembrance was proclaimed by the Governor General Michael Jeffery, on behalf of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth 11.

Merchant Navy Day (Sydney) Australia 2009
The Merchant Navy Day of Remembrance will be honored by a Service and Wreath Laying Ceremony, to be held at the Mosman War Memorial Cenotaph at Mosman Park (Alan Border Oval) at 11am 3rd September 2009. We would like to invite all Vindicatrix members who wish to join us to honor all Allied Merchant Seaman who served and gave their lives in both World Wars.

Thanking you in anticipation Ron Wylie.

What is the definition of a true dinkum Vindi Boy or Vindi Girl? I find it extremely difficult to express in words the amity and loyalty being displayed by the true Vindi Boy and their spouses. However I am able to more clearly comment on the true Vindi Boy and spouse by example, by simply referring to those Vindi Boys and Girls particularly those who are members of the Queensland Vindicatrix Association and others, who unselfishly "made" time and effort to attend the funeral of my sister-in-law Lil Creasey at 1300 hours on Wednesday 24th December 2008 giving support to my grieving brother Terry Creasey and family.

Whilst the funeral by an Act of God was not ideally appropriate being on Christmas Eve, I have viewed a DVD covering the funeral service and my heart sank to the depths of emotion when I observed the noticeable contingent of some 40 or more Vindi Boys and their partners who kindly and devotedly interrupted their important day to manifest their decisive support for my brother in his hour of need.

I wish to take this opportunity along with my brother Terry, to thank all those Vindi Boys and Girls who attended the funeral for their appreciated support besides those who were not able to attend the funeral who kindly sent messages of condolence from Canada, UK, NZ and other places in Australia.

May God Bless You All with Smooth Sailing.
Alan T. Creasey Vindi D 1950
